Monbulk Trophy Naming

MCC - The naming of each grades Trophies.

 

From season 2012/13, the 1st - 4ths batting, bowling and MVP trophies were named after some past champions in those grades to recognize their achievements both on and off the field

First XI

Batting – Ken Utting – Ken made 7,152 runs at 51.83 including 19 centuries.  He won 12 batting averages, 8 of which were also association averages. Amongst other achievements, Ken also won a Feaver Medal, was a member of two 1st XI flags. Ken also spent time as President and Junior Co-ordinator and is a Life Member of the MCC

 

Bowling – Dennis Colee – (already existed) This award was named after Dennis in 2008 in honour of his long service and wickets taken at Monbulk CC. Dennis started playing cricket with Monbulk in the early 60’s and still played some games in 2010. Since our records started in 1979, Dennis has taken 420 wickets at 16.98. He won at least 4 bowling averages including two in the 1st XI. He is also a Life Member.

 

MVP - Ken Fleming – (already existed) Ken was a superstar of the Monbulk Cricket Club during the 50’s and 60’s. Ken won at least 6 bowling averages in a row (2 association) – current records start in 1959, so he probably won more like at least 10. He was also a member of Monbulk’s 1st XI side that won four A grade premierships in a row starting in 1954 and regularly represented the FTGDCA. Ken was President for five years in the 60’s and is not only a Life Member of Monbulk CC but was also given a Life Membership of the FTGDCA in 1965 (Monbulk’s only one).

 

Second XI

Batting - Greg Hulm – Greg made over 7000 runs which is 2nd all time. He won 4 x batting averages, two in the 2nds. Greg has also been coach, President for 2 years and is Life Member of the MCC.

 

Bowling – Mick Surwald – Is the all-time leading wicket taker at out club (since 1979) with 489 wickets at 15.43. Mick won 11 bowling averages, 7 in the 1sts and 4 in 2nds. 5 of those were also association averages. Mick was also Secretary for 3 years and is a Life Member of the MCC

 

MVP – Greg Hardy – (already existed) Greg is in the top 5 for runs and wickets since 1979. He was a champion in our 2nds where he won numerous batting, bowling and MVP awards. Greg was also treasurer for 11 years and was also President and Secretary at times as well. He is a Life Member.

 

Third XI

Batting – John Decoite – John made over 3000 runs for the club, winning two 3rds batting averages – one of which was an association average. He was also captain of this grade and won MVPs. John was Secretary for 5 years.

 

Bowling – Gary Wragg – Gary spent two years as President. He took 136 wickets for the club including three bowling averages, one of which was an association average in the 3rds.

 

MVP – Dave Walkley – Dave made 3990 runs (7th) and took 247 wickets (6th) for the club. He won 3 batting and 3 bowling awards. He was also President for two years and Secretary for 3 years and is a Life Member.

 

Fourth XI

Batting – Byron Griffiths – Byron made 3000 runs, winning 3 batting awards. He also spent years as groundsman, Junior co-ordinator and Junior coach. Byron is a Life Member.

 

Bowling – Glenn Marescaux – Glenn took 123 wickets mainly in the 4ths and won three bowling awards in this grade. Glenn was captain of the 4th’s premiership team 95/96. He also made 1788 runs and was a fantastic clubman for many years.

 

MVP – Mark Bailey – Mark made 5372 runs (7th) and took 109 wickets. He won two 4ths batting averages which were also both association averages. Mark was also a great clubman and looked after the club stats for many years

 

Other

Best Clubman - Jimmy Fraser – Jimmy is a Life Member, was President and spent many years as Junior coach / helper. Jimmy won many premierships including in the 2’s in 59/60 and in the 5ths in 88/89. He has been a member of the MCC for over 50 still supporting the club throughout.

 

Most Outstanding U21 Player – Ken Utting Shield (since 1988/89)

 

Most Outstanding Junior (U16’s) – Jason Fraser Shield (since 2009/10) - Jason played all of his junior cricket at the Monbulk Cricket Club before playing District cricket at Richmond. He then returned to play at Monbulk in 1997. He dominated the FTGDCA like very few have. (made over 10,000 runs)
